“Memoriam – The Museum of Memory”, involves oral history, video and photography workshops for young people in the island of Lefkada. The program begun in September 2019 at the 1st Lyceum of Lefkada and is still running.

Memoriam project emerged in the City of Lefkada as a need of the place to connect with its history, and as a way to promote access to cultural heritage to the local people, especially the young generation.

The goal of Memoriam is to transform young people from mere recipients of cultural assets to creators. The young people of the island of Lefkada, through an anthropocentric view, create an original memory installation of the city of the island, collecting stories, documents and producing new photographic material.

Memoriam project started with the initial support of the Ministry of Culture and from January 2020 joined Stavros Niarchos Foundation Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI).

Memoriam’s plans are:

  • The development of a suite of good practice guides for teaching oral history and video to young people.
  • The construction of an interactive community map presenting the results of the youth research. The map will engage the users to tour the city of Lefkada and listen to its stories.
  • To organise an interactive walking Exhibition in the City of Lefkada.

In January 2021 Memoriam will participate in the multi-themed festival topos:lefkada by organising a digital experiential workshop of Participatory Photography and Subjective Mapping.
